Social Selling – I’m a Proponent, Not a Detractor – Look at The Stats

Bob Thompson left several comments on the article at the CustomerThink site. In his last comment, he asked what the stats would look like if we only reported on what the best salespeople did with social media. I think that’s a terrific idea, Bob, and while it’s much more difficult to isolate those statistics, I did the research and report on it here.

Why CEOs/Presidents Tolerate Ineffective Sales Management
- October 7, 2013

Lack of overall sales performance is an easily recognized problem. A savvy President or CEO may correctly identify the symptoms: inaccurate forecasts, a lack of new opportunities, new salespeople failing to ramp-up quickly enough, delayed closings, and complacency. However, they usually fail to understand that these issues are not sales issues, but sales management issues.

Vote the Best Top Article on Sales and Sales Management

This is a pretty exciting time for us. We reviewed 1,000 articles which I’ve posted on this Blog since 2006 in an effort to present you with the Top 15 Sales Articles of the past six years, and later this week, the Top Sales Article of the last six years. It was not quick, easy, fun or obvious. They aren’t necessarily the most viewed and they do not have the most inbound links. But we did pick fifteen of the more serious articles. Some are articles backed by science and some are assessment comparisons. Five are on selling and two are articles where I debunked other published articles. Missing are the articles with analogies, humor and comparisons to children, but other than that, it’s a nice cross-section.

The Difference Between Sales Commitment and Desire
- November 18, 2011

I was explaining this difference to a client and the two findings, which we were comparing, were striking in their contrast.
The candidate in question scored 100 (off the charts) on Desire (how badly he wants to succeed in sales); yet, as low as he was high – 16 – on Commitment – his willingness to do what it takes to succeed in sales. So as you might expect, the client asked, “How can he score so high in Desire but so low in Commitment?”
Great question.
I’ll explain it in exactly the same fashion I explained it to him.

Perhaps the disconnect between what I see and what is being reported is simply this. While there are some isolated geographies and industries that are doing poorly, others are doing quite well. But when we look at the overall numbers, they just don’t provide an accurate reflection of what is actually taking place.
