Regular readers know I like to start my articles with an analogy. Baseball analogies appear more than any other but analogies from politics are my favorites. I have used them very sparingly over the past fifteen years or so and for those who don’t share my political views, I would never try to convince you that I am right and you are wrong. I just make observations which you don’t have to agree with, and if we can leave it at that, you don’t have to stop reading my articles or send hate messages. We’ll go on to live another day.
So what happened in Iowa on January 15?
Well, Trump won big and is now the presumptive Republican nominee, but that was expected and is not news.
CNN and MSNBC cut away from Trump’s victory comments. That’s news!
Those two networks were among a group of media outlets that knowingly spread, and in some cases, created, dozens of lies that half of America still believes to be true about Trump, because they never corrected the record. Last night, they continued along that path by protecting their viewers from what they called Trump’s “lies and hateful rhetoric.” I heard him say that we would drill for oil, fix inflation, stop the wars, secure the boarder, and fix the crime problem in major cities. Works for me. The stuff they put this guy through over the past nine years is the stuff of great movies. Mysteries, thrillers, and crime dramas. We know who done it, but will everyone come to learn what really happened? It’s real life imitating art. Huge intrigue. Great movies.
That brings me to Movie Night. The feedback from those who subscribed to Movie Night last week is fantastic – they love it! Some of the best scenes from some of the best movies and TV shows help bring, excitement, entertainment and fun to sales core competencies and sales process milestones in a way that slides, lectures, bullet points, theory and discussion just can’t. And that’s the point of Movie Night. The course consists of 100% clips along with short introductions and quick reviews of the lessons learned from each clip.
I included clips we never used in our training courses, like:
- The 40 Year Old Virgin
- The Island
- Super Pumped
- Hello Tomorrow
- Ugly Betty
- Suits
- Despicable Me
- 1917
- The Kaminsky Method
- Condor
- Bruce Almighty
- Fun with Dick and Jane
- Admission
- The Office
- Cinderella Man
- The Goldbergs
- Hustle
- Game of Thrones
- Mystery Men
- Friday Night Lights
- and more!
I’ve also included clips that we have used in training before, like:
- Apollo 13
- Hitch
- Bohemian Rhapsody
- Friends
- Everybody Loves Raymond
- Lone Survivor
- For the Love of the Game
- Facing the Giants
- RV
- Iron Man
- Runaway Jury
- Erin Brochovich
- Mad Men
This is the most fun you could ever have while going through sales training! But it is so much more than fun and entertainment. There are powerful selling lessons in each clip, and despite the fun, I guarantee you will become more effective at all aspects of selling. It doesn’t matter how long you have been in sales, what you sell, who you sell to, the length of your sales cycle or the cost of your product or service. And what about your competency gaps?
Need to be better on the phone?
Need to book more meetings?
Need to be better at discovery?
Need to be more thorough qualifying?
Need to make more dynamic presentations?
Need to improve your win rate?
Need to be more effective overcoming resistance, pushback and objections?
There is so much more. It’s a lot like good spaghetti sauce – it’s all in there.
